The town of Bordon near Petersfield in Hampshire was the host for Round 4 of the Southern XC MTB Series 2015. Situated on Military owned land, these locations have always offered up fast and exciting racing over the years and after a confusing start, this weekend was to be no different.
Heading into this event Frog Bikes rider Gracie Fox had struggled to find the form that she had experienced during the 2014 season. However, having ridden the course coupled with the rainy weather conditions Gracie really believed that this was where her season would change.
A fast road start allowed Gracie to get away with the GC overall leader as they both entered the single track together for the first time. In 1st position and looking comfortable, Gracie negotiated the first drop-off section with ease getting a slight gap on second place. Approaching the second steep drop Gracie chose to run her bike down the decent only to slip on a root half way down, sacrificing the lead and also dropping back to third position.
Climbing back on to her bike, Gracie raced after second place determined to not let her slip deny her of a top two finish. On the climb into the arena Gracie caught up second place and stormed past her in pursuit of the leader.
The second lap was comfortable for Gracie. With a clear track ahead of her she pushed the pedals as hard as possible to catch 1st position, so fast in fact that she almost over-shot the corner on the climb before the arena!
A very happy and muddy Gracie eventually crossed the line in 2nd Position. This result also brings more good news for last year’s series champion as this also means that she is now currently 2nd overall in the series with two races left to go.
When the ‘chips are down’ it’s so easy to consider giving in. But the successful ones are those who pay less attention to the past and focus on the here and now. This sums Gracie up for this year. Despite her setbacks she has approached each race as a fresh start and focused purely on delivering a good ride. Her hard work and determination is paying off as she has clawed herself back from 6th overall to 2nd in the series.
Well done Gracie you were and are truly fantastic!!
